BSTU is a major scientifc and research centre actively developing various scientifc trends. Research activities here are fulflled within the framework of developing priority research felds of the Republic of Belarus. The University actively participates in carrying out scientifc and technical programs at different levels. As a leading executive organization the University develops state scientifc and technical programs “Forest Management and Rational Forest Utilization”. Nowadays the University fulflls two scientifc and technical programs of the allied state – “Cosmos NT” and “Nanotechnology SD”. Within economic contracts aimed at solving urgent applied problems, the University cooperates with more than 100 enterprises and organizations of the country.

There is a Physical and Chemical R&D Centre comprising 8 laboratories: Laboratory of Analysis of Particle Size and Specifc Surface, Laboratory of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Laboratory of Infrared Spectroscopy, Laboratory of Transmission Electron Microscopy, Laboratory of X-ray Structural Analysis, Laboratory of Scanning Electron Microscopy, Laboratory of Thermal Analysis, Laboratory of Chromatography and Chromatic Mass Spectroscopy; as well as Consulting Centre on Management Systems; Centre of Technology Transfer in Woodworking and Forest Complex; dual-subordination research and development laboratory for stabilization of plastics, rubber and fbres, dual-subordination research and development laboratory for forest chemistry, research and development laboratory for chemical processing of plant raw materials; dual-subordination research and development laboratory for petrochemistry; applied research and development laboratory for technology, engineering and economy of printing and publishing complex; research and development laboratory for glass and silicates. Moreover Testing Centre for Ecological Monitoring, Testing Centre for Woodworking Equipment and Tools, research and development laboratory for building structures and materials were accredited in the Accreditation System of the Republic of Belarus.

The spectrum of our scientists’ research is quite extensive. These are perspective materials, progressive technologies, machines and tools, modern fundamental research methods in chemical, forestry engineering and printing industries. Over the years of work our University scientists laid the basis for 16 scientifc and teaching schools, acknowledged not only in our republic and CIS states but also abroad. Five Specialized D. Sc. / Cand. Sc. Certifcation Councils in 12 scientifc specialities function at our University. The University scientists publish about 2,000 scientifc papers and abstracts annually.
Scientifc journal “Proceedings of the BSTU” being published under the BSTU has been included in the Catalogue of scientifc periodicals recommended by the Higher Certifcation Commission for publishing dissertation materials. Only for the last 10 years the University has been granted more than 450 patents for inventions and useful models. 15 doctoral theses and 225 Candidate’s dissertations have been defended, 77 monographs, 1,138 textbooks and tutorials, 14,000 articles have been published at the University. Over 150 international and republican conferences have been held under the BSTU.

Much attention is paid to the improvement and development of material and technical research facilities of the University. To carry out research, the University scientists are applying modern unique equipment produced by leading world companies. Creative and motivated efforts of highly-qualifed University scholars and the prominence of their research results obtained, as well as up-to-date material and technical base contribute to the success achieved by the University in solving socioeconomic problems set by the republic.
